Artificial intelligence models will spread to every possible domain with applications like personalised medicine, precision surgery, and custom manufacturing, said an expert in the field from Osmania University.
Dr. Mohd Abdul Hameed from the Department of Computer Science explained how things that were once thought impossible have become very common now.
“A.I. is mimicking human brain. It works by using the same process that humans use to think, analyse and understand things,” said Dr. Hameed in his guest lecture at the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication on Friday.
Around 100 students of Journalism from Osmania, English & Foreign Languages University, and Bhavan’s Vivekananda College of Arts, Commerce & Science participated in the session.
Dr. Hameed explained that research in artificial intelligence had been going on since 1956, and that the field has seen rapid growth in recent years.
He asserted that the technology will take over more and more work and make many current jobs redundant. Even emotions will not be beyond A.I. soon, he said.
Students expressed the view that sensory perception of humans and emotions were unlikely to be replicated by A.I. and even if they were, it would be a disadvantage for the technology.
Dr. Hameed talked about how models are trained, starting with the way babies are taught about things around them, and moving on to higher order prediction procedures.
Among the faculty who participated were Dr. T. Satish Kumar, Head, Dept. of JMC; Assistant Professors Dr. B. Ramakrishna, Dr. K. Ramaswamy, Mr. Shiva Trishul and Ms. H.K. Amrita.
