The C Hostel Mess is probably the oldest functioning hostel in Osmania University. But something has caught the attention of hostellers recently: its makeshift drip system.
The wash area, where students and workers enter both before and after meals, has developed a rhythm of its own. The continuous water leakage from the ceiling resembles the drip irrigation system used for crops to conserve water. This is the latest sign of the mess’ deteriorating infrastructure.

There have been other issues, such as cracks and debris falling from the ceiling.
In February, when Journalism students interviewed the Chief Warden, he stated: “C Hostel students will be shifted to the newly built hostel by the end of February or in March.”
However, there has been no progress on this front so far.
Recently, engineering students staged a protest, demanding that the new hostel be allocated to them.
The Chief Warden’s promise, the B.Tech. students’ protest, and the persistent infrastructure problems have pushed C Hostel students into further confusion. Their eagerness to enter the newly built hostel is growing daily.
