Marri Ramu of The Hindu delivers guest lecture on Crime Reporting
The Department of Journalism & Mass Communication, on 21st June 2024, organised a Guest Lecture on the topic of ‘Reporting Crime & Courts’ for M.A. Sem. II and Sem. IV students. Around 50 students attended the Lecture.
The guest speaker was Mr. Marri Ramu, a senior Crime Reporter from prominent English daily, The Hindu. He is known in the journalist community for his deep sources in the Police Department and his meticulous reporting.
In his talk, Mr. Ramu explained the intricacies of reporting suicides, accidents, and sexual crimes. He discussed several recent cases, including the ‘Disha’ encounter, the Kondagattu accident, the Jubilee Hills pub sexual assault, the IDL blast, among others.
Students actively participated in the interactive session, raising questions and seeking clarifications. They sought to know the whys and hows of information gathering, verification, and handling pressures on the job.
The session lasted nearly two hours and touched upon a wide range of issues related to crime reporting.
