Osmania University’s rocks speak of valour: An artist’s tribute to Operation Sindoor

Amid the waves of tension and intense public focus on ‘Operation Sindoor’, a moving tribute to the armed forces has emerged from the silent stones of Osmania University campus.

An artist, Dr Eslavath Venkanna, popularly known as ‘nature artist Venkat’, has transformed the ancient rocks around the Arts College into a canvas of patriotism, sacrifice, and memory.

The tribute is in the form of a mural made up of a set of paintings. At its heart is a powerful scene from the battlefield depicting soldiers in action, layered with smoke, shadows, and the tricolour rising defiantly in the backdrop.

Another piece of the mural honours the supreme sacrifice of Murali Naik, who laid down his life during the first wave of ‘Operation Sindoor’. His figure is captured mid-march, rifle slung, eyes focused, embodying the resolve of a soldier who knew the cost of freedom.

Adjacent to it is a striking portrait of Colonel Sophia Qureshi, the mission commander of ‘Operation Sindoor’. Known for her sharp strategy and calm leadership, Col. Qureshi is depicted with a firm gaze, head held high — symbolising the strength of modern Indian defence forces and the rising prominence of women in command roles.

Talking about the idea behind the mural, Mr. Venkanna said: “These rocks have heard centuries of student voices. Today, they carry the story of our protectors. This is my protest against forgetting.”

Passersby and students have begun gathering to light candles and leave flowers near the art, turning the site into an impromptu memorial.
