A woman assistant professor at Maulana Azad Urdu University has approached Telangana High Court complaining of severe sexual harassment by a professor of Islamic Studies and also alleging suppression of facts by the University. Citing people close to the complainant, The Hindu reported the harassment lasted several years and involved grooming, psychological manipulation, gaslighting, coercion, isolation, and forced sexual acts. The writ petition mentioned that the complainant on 23 January lodged a complaint with the University’s Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) alleging sexual harassment. The ICC submitted its enquiry report along with recommendations in April. However, the complainant was neither furnished with a copy of the enquiry report nor informed of the outcome of the proceedings. The High Court called for the University’s response by the next hearing on 14th October. (26 Sep. 2026)
