Managing a company’s online reputation has become a herculean task after the emergence of smartphones and social media, said a senior corporate communications professional.
Delivering a guest lecture at the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication on Thursday, Mr. Vijay Amruth Raj, General Manger (Corporate Communications) at Biological E. Ltd., said the job of “managing the narrative” now requires constant engagement and consistent communication will all stakeholders.
“We don’t know which customer tweets about his or her bad experience from where,” he said describing the challenge.
Mr. Raj said that despite the availability of technological tools like ‘Meltwater’ that monitor every single ‘mention’ of one’s brand on social media, it was still a challenge.
He also narrated his experiences in crisis communication at Airtel and employee engagement at Tata Projects Ltd.
Giving an overview of the profession, he told students that career opportunities in digital marketing were growing like wildfire, especially for those with creative skills in social media and digital media.
The Lecture was attended by first- and second-year Journalism students and faculty members.
